Quick Start

Download Teachback from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).

The app is free — no account required for local-only sessions.

On first launch you will see a four-page onboarding that explains the Feynman Technique.
Tap Get Started to proceed to the main screen.

The app ships two built-in example sessions (STEM and language learning) in the History tab so you can immediately see what a mastery report looks like.

  1. Tap New Session on the home screen.
  2. Type or paste the topic you want to learn (e.g. “Newton’s laws of motion”).
  3. Teachback will analyse whether the topic is focused enough. If it’s too broad, it will suggest narrower sub-topics.
  4. Tap Start Session to begin recording.
  5. Explain the topic aloud as if you are teaching a complete beginner. Aim for at least 60 seconds.
  6. Tap Done speaking (or let the silence detector trigger automatically after 2 seconds).
  7. Answer the AI’s follow-up questions. Each answer is transcribed and evaluated.
  8. Tap Finish to generate your mastery report.

The report scores your session on four dimensions:

DimensionWhat it measures
AccuracyFactual correctness of your explanations
DepthHow deeply you explained underlying mechanisms
CoherenceLogical flow and structure of your explanation
BreadthCoverage of key sub-topics

A composite score (0–100) is shown as a circular progress indicator at the top.

Teachback uses spaced repetition to schedule review sessions for concepts you found difficult.
The home screen shows a Review Suggestions card when sessions are due.

The first time you open the Settings → Whisper Model screen, you can download a higher-accuracy model:

Base~150 MBGoodQuick dev testing
Small~490 MBBetterMost users (default)

The app works immediately with the bundled base model — the download is optional.
