Quick Start
1. Install the app
Section titled “1. Install the app”Download Teachback from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
The app is free — no account required for local-only sessions.
2. First launch
Section titled “2. First launch”On first launch you will see a four-page onboarding that explains the Feynman Technique.
Tap Get Started to proceed to the main screen.
The app ships two built-in example sessions (STEM and language learning) in the History tab so you can immediately see what a mastery report looks like.
3. Run your first session
Section titled “3. Run your first session”- Tap New Session on the home screen.
- Type or paste the topic you want to learn (e.g. “Newton’s laws of motion”).
- Teachback will analyse whether the topic is focused enough. If it’s too broad, it will suggest narrower sub-topics.
- Tap Start Session to begin recording.
- Explain the topic aloud as if you are teaching a complete beginner. Aim for at least 60 seconds.
- Tap Done speaking (or let the silence detector trigger automatically after 2 seconds).
- Answer the AI’s follow-up questions. Each answer is transcribed and evaluated.
- Tap Finish to generate your mastery report.
4. Read your report
Section titled “4. Read your report”The report scores your session on four dimensions:
| Dimension | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Accuracy | Factual correctness of your explanations |
| Depth | How deeply you explained underlying mechanisms |
| Coherence | Logical flow and structure of your explanation |
| Breadth | Coverage of key sub-topics |
A composite score (0–100) is shown as a circular progress indicator at the top.
5. Come back tomorrow
Section titled “5. Come back tomorrow”Teachback uses spaced repetition to schedule review sessions for concepts you found difficult.
The home screen shows a Review Suggestions card when sessions are due.
Whisper model download
Section titled “Whisper model download”The first time you open the Settings → Whisper Model screen, you can download a higher-accuracy model:
| Tier | Size | Accuracy | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base | ~150 MB | Good | Quick dev testing |
| Small | ~490 MB | Better | Most users (default) |
| Medium | ~1.5 GB | Best for non-English | Multi-language learners |
| Large v3 | ~3.1 GB | Highest | Power users with storage to spare |
The app works immediately with the bundled base model — the download is optional.
